For Families in Blantyre
A Family Dentist for Blantyre
We see families from all over Blantyre, from High Blantyre down to the streets round the David Livingstone Centre. Children and adults are registered on the NHS here with no waiting list, private appointments are there if you prefer, and on weekdays we keep time free for toothache and knocks.Children seen on the NHS with no waiting list. Parents can register on the NHS too, or be seen privately. Weekday help for toothache and knocks.
Getting Kids Registered
It takes one message. Brothers and sisters can be booked one after another, so it's a single trip for the family rather than three.
Tell Us Who's Coming
Ask for a call back and pick the NHS option, or send a WhatsApp with each child's name and date of birth. We'll ring to find a time.
A First Visit That's Mostly Chat
Toddlers usually sit on a parent's knee while we count teeth. Older children get a ride in the chair and a look at the mirror before anything else.
Fluoride and Advice
Under Scotland's Childsmile programme we paint fluoride varnish on to strengthen young teeth, and give you practical tips on brushing and snacks.
Back When It's Due
We'll suggest how often each child should come, based on their teeth rather than a fixed calendar.
Dental Examinations for Parents
Parents are often last in the queue for their own teeth. You have two routes.
Teenagers
Blantyre teenagers stay on the NHS at Hamilton Smile Studios, free until 26. We keep an eye on wisdom teeth and gum health, and talk to them directly rather than over their heads.
Where a teenager's bite really calls for fixed braces, we'll say so and arrange a referral to an orthodontist. For anyone who plays rugby, football or hockey, a made-to-measure sports mouthguard is £190 and fits far better than a shop one.
When Something Goes Wrong
Kids fall off bikes and teeth crack on a Tuesday. Here's what to do before you call.
An Adult Tooth Knocked Out
Hold it by the white part, rinse it in milk if dirty and push it back in, or keep it in milk. Phone us at once: the first hour matters.
A Baby Tooth Knocked Out
Don't try to put it back, as that can harm the adult tooth underneath. Bring your child in to be checked.
Toothache
Give children's painkillers as the pack says and ring us when we open. The appointment itself is £70, and plan members pay nothing.
A Chipped Tooth
Keep any piece you find. Small chips are often repaired with tooth-coloured filling material at the same visit.
A Swollen Face
Call us the same day. If swelling spreads fast or affects breathing, swallowing or an eye, go to A&E.
Evenings and Weekends
We're closed, so phone NHS 24 on 111 for urgent dental advice in Lanarkshire.
