IV Sedation, Hamilton
IV Sedation in Hamilton
IV sedation at our Hamilton practice costs £500 a session. A sedative given into a vein leaves you awake but deeply calm, so you can still answer us, and afterwards most people recall very little. We offer it for implant surgery, longer appointments and anyone whose nerves have kept them away from the dentist.
£500 covers the first session; each further 30 minutes is £250. Your plan shows the sedation cost before you agree to treatment.
When Sedation Helps
It's always used together with local anaesthetic. The sedative calms you; the anaesthetic stops the pain.
When It Isn't the Right Choice
We'll go through this with you well before any date is booked.
How It's Given
This is conscious sedation, not a general anaesthetic. A clinician trained in sedation gives it through a fine cannula in the back of your hand or your arm, and a trained team watches over you the whole time while your dentist works.
An Assessment First
Your medical history, a blood pressure reading and a chat about what you find hardest. This usually happens at your consultation.
Getting Ready
Have something light to eat beforehand. Line up an adult to bring you in, wait for you and take you home.
While You're Sedated
A monitor tracks your pulse, breathing and oxygen from start to finish. You can still hear and respond to the dentist.
The Rest of the Day
Go home and take it easy. For 24 hours, don't drive, drink alcohol, operate machinery or sign anything important.
How It Feels
People tend to say they felt warm, heavy and pleasantly drowsy. An hour can seem like ten minutes, and many have only patchy memories of the appointment, or none.
You stay able to hear what's said and to do simple things like turning your head or opening wider. The tooth or gum being treated is numbed with local anaesthetic in the normal way, so it doesn't hurt.
How safe is it? Conscious sedation is a routine part of UK dentistry. Your vital signs are watched continuously, and emergency drugs and equipment are kept in the practice, as every dental practice is required to do.
Patients travel to us from across Lanarkshire for implant treatment, and sedation can be added for the surgical stages.

Clip-in Dentures
Placing the two or four implants that will hold the denture firm.
Wisdom Teeth
Surgical removal, which is the procedure many people fear most.
