Dentures in Hamilton
Dentures Made to Fit Your Mouth
Dentures in Hamilton cost from £565 for a small partial and £695 for a full set, and usually take three to five visits over a few weeks. 1 Each one is made by a dental laboratory to records of your mouth, then adjusted here until it feels right.
Immediate dentures £495; cobalt chrome from £1,200. Plan members pay 10% less. 1 Dentures are available on the NHS too. Children are registered and treated on the NHS straight away, and we are registering new NHS adults now.
The Main Types
Which suits you depends on how many teeth are left, where the gaps are, and your budget.
Full Denture
A complete upper or lower set. We set the teeth in wax first so you can judge the shape, shade and smile before it's finished.
Plastic (Acrylic) Partial
Pink plastic base with one or more teeth on it. Quick to make, easy to add a tooth to later, and the lowest-cost way to fill several gaps.
Metal-Framed (Cobalt Chrome) Partial
A thin metal frame under the teeth. Covers less of the palate, feels lighter and sits more firmly than plastic, but costs more.
Immediate Denture
Made in advance and fitted on the day teeth are taken out, so nobody sees a gap. It will need relining as the gums shrink.
Implant-Retained Denture
Clips onto two or more implants. The usual fix for a lower denture that won't stay down. How it works
Repairs and Relines
A crack mended, a new tooth added after losing one, or the fitting surface relined to match gums that have changed.
Visits and Timings
Expect three to six weeks from first visit to fit.
Exam and Plan
We look at your gums, any remaining teeth and how your jaws meet, and talk about what you want from the denture. Bring your old one if you have it.
Moulds and Choices
Impressions are taken for the lab. You choose the tooth shade and shape with us.
Wax Try-in
For full or larger partial dentures, the teeth arrive set in wax. You can look in the mirror, speak, and ask for changes while they're still easy to make.
Fit and Review
The finished denture goes in, and we see you again within a week or two to ease any sore spots.
The First Few Weeks
Expect it to feel bulky for a while. Your tongue and cheeks learn to hold it in place, and most people stop noticing it within a month.
Denture or Implants?
For many people a well-made denture does the job well. Where it doesn't, implants can hold it still or replace it with fixed teeth. Dr Sharma assesses implant options on a CT scan here.
| Feature | Denture | Implant-retained denture | Fixed full arch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comes out? | Yes | Yes, to clean | No |
| Surgery | None | Implants placed | Implants placed |
| Stability | Good upper; lower can move | Clips firmly in place | Fixed like natural teeth |
| Covers the palate | Upper full: yes | Often less | No |
| From | £695 | £8,500 per jaw | £12,500 per arch |
Why Dentures Loosen
The ridge of bone and gum under a denture shrinks slowly once teeth are lost, fastest in the first months after extractions. The denture stays the same shape, so in time it rocks or rubs.
A chairside reline (£110) adds new material to the fitting surface so it hugs your gums again. Most dentures also need replacing every five to ten years as the teeth wear flat and the bite drops, which can make the face look older.
Lose another natural tooth? An acrylic partial can usually have a tooth added (£105) rather than being remade.
