Dental Crowns in Hamilton: A Strong Cover for a Weak Tooth
A ceramic crown in Hamilton costs from £675 on a back tooth and £750 on a front one, and takes two visits, usually a week or two apart. 1 It fits over the whole tooth like a thimble, holding a cracked, heavily filled or root-treated tooth together so it doesn't split.

Check It's the Right Choice
An exam and X-ray confirm the root and gum are healthy enough to be worth crowning. If a smaller repair will do, we'll suggest that instead.
Shaping and a 3D Scan
With the tooth numb, a thin layer is trimmed from all sides. Our iTero Lumina wand then scans it in a couple of minutes, with no mouthful of impression paste.
A Temporary Crown
A plastic crown goes on the same day to protect the tooth and keep the space while the ceramic one is made.
Fitting
We check the fit, the colour and how it meets the teeth above or below, then bond it on. This visit is usually shorter than the first.

Onlay
A ceramic piece that covers only the chewing surface and the weak cusps, leaving the sound sides alone. £750.

What Crowns Are Made Of
Nearly all the crowns we fit are ceramic. The lab can make them in a glass-ceramic where looks matter most, or in zirconia where a molar takes heavy chewing, and either is shaded to the teeth beside it.
Gold still has a place at the back of the mouth for people who grind hard or have a short tooth, because a thin gold crown still won't break and wears gently against opposing teeth. We quote for gold on request.
On the NHS, the material for a back tooth may be metal or metal with porcelain on top. Privately you can choose all-ceramic on any tooth.
How Long Crowns Last
Ten to fifteen years is a fair expectation, and many last well past twenty. The ceramic itself rarely breaks. What usually ends a crown's life is decay creeping in at the edge where it meets the tooth, or gum disease around the root.
The risks are worth knowing. Shaping a living tooth can, now and then, upset the nerve, so a small number of crowned teeth need root canal treatment later. A crown can also come loose; if it does, keep it safe and bring it in, as it can often be re-cemented (£70).
