Boutique Home Whitening
Whitening in Hamilton
Professional home whitening at Hamilton Smile Studios is £350, or £315 on a dental plan. We check your teeth, make thin trays from a 3D scan and prescribe Boutique gel that you wear at home for two to three weeks.
If you're having Invisalign or a composite bonding package with us, whitening is already part of the fee. By law, only a registered dental professional can whiten teeth in the UK.
What the Fee Covers
One price for the whole course, from the first check to the review at the end. 1
A Dental Check
Decay, gum problems and worn fillings are spotted before any gel touches your teeth.
Trays Cut to Fit
Made from an iTero scan, so they hug your teeth and keep the gel off your gums.
Boutique Gel
Professional-strength gel, prescribed in the amount your teeth need.
A Shade Record
We note your starting colour, so you can see the change rather than guess at it.
A Review
We compare before and after and talk you through keeping the result.
Trays to Keep
Keep them safe. Top-up gel from us refreshes the shade later without new trays.
Who It Suits
When We'd Hold Off
How Long It Takes
Three short visits to the practice, with two to three weeks of home use in the middle.
Check and Scan
A look at your teeth and gums and a note of any crowns, fillings or bonding at the front. Then a quick iTero scan for the trays.
Collect Your Trays
We check the fit, show you how little gel each tooth needs, and record the shade you're starting from.
Two to Three Weeks at Home
Trays in for the time we prescribe each day. Many people notice a difference within the first week, and it keeps building after that.
Back to See Us
We compare the shade with your first visit and decide together whether you've reached the colour you were after.
Sensitivity
Some people notice it, many don't. While the gel is working, teeth can react sharply to cold for a few seconds at a time. It's temporary, it doesn't harm the tooth, and it fades within a few days of stopping.
If your teeth are already sensitive, tell us at the check. Starting a sensitive toothpaste a fortnight beforehand, shorter wear times and skipping the odd day all help, and you get to the same shade, only a bit more slowly.
What Whitening Won't Change
Gel only lightens natural tooth. Crowns, veneers, white fillings and composite bonding keep the colour they were made in. If any sit at the front of your mouth, they may look darker once the teeth around them have lightened.
We'll point these out at the check, and plan for any that would show to be replaced afterwards in the new shade. Planning new bonding or veneers? Whiten first, so they're matched to the brighter colour.
Deep grey staining, from old antibiotics or a tooth whose nerve has died, also lightens less, and we'll tell you honestly what to expect. 2
Dentist Whitening or a Chemist Kit?
UK rules decide how strong each one can be, and who is allowed to supply it.
| Feature | From a dentist | Over the counter |
|---|---|---|
| Hydrogen peroxide | Up to 6%, the UK legal maximum | No more than 0.1% |
| Effect | Lightens the colour inside the tooth | Mostly lifts surface marks |
| Fit | Trays shaped from a scan of your mouth | Generic trays or strips |
| Checked first? | Yes, by your dentist | No |
| Legal providers | Dentists, or hygienists and therapists working to a dentist's prescription | Sold for home use. Whitening by beauticians or in salons breaks UK law |
Keeping the Result
Teeth slowly pick up stain again. For most people the change holds well for a year or more, and how long depends mainly on habits.
